It refers to that eternal, unlimited, personal, self-conscious, self-determining, and vibrant inner energy found only in the very being of God. Other creatures have life, but God is life. Thus, his life is perfect in matters of quantity (he possesses eternal life) and quality (this eternal life is the ultimate in purity and perfection, e.g., Jer 10:10; Matt 16:16; John 5:26; Acts 17:24–25, 28; Heb 10:31).
