What roles did the three persons in the Trinity play in salvation?

The Roles of the Trinity in Salvation

As this little poem illustrates, the entire Trinity was totally involved in the work of salvation.
        The Father wrought it,
    The Son bought it,
    The Spirit taught it,
    The devil fought it,
    The rich man sought it,
    The dying thief caught it,
    Praise God, I’ve got it!

  A. The work of the Father in salvation:

1. He foreknew and predestined us (Rom 8:29a; 11:2; Eph 1:5, 11).

2. He chose and elected us (Matt 24:31; Rom 8:33; Eph 1:4; 2 Thes 2:13; 1 Pet 1:2).

3. He called and conformed us (Rom 8:28–30).

4. He justified and glorified us (Rom 8:30).

5. He sent his Son to us (2 Cor 5:19; 9:15).

B. The work of the Son in salvation:

Four action verbs depict the work of Jesus in our salvation.

1. Showing (John 12:45; 14:8–9).

2. Seeking (Luke 19:10).

3. Sacrificing (John 10:11).

4. Satisfying (Rom 3:25–26).

NOTE: “Propitiation” in Romans 3:25 refers to satisfaction. This is simply to say Christ’s death satisfied the holiness and righteousness of God.

C. The work of the Holy Spirit in salvation:

1. He convicts, thus pointing us to Christ (John 16:7–11).

2. He baptizes, thus placing us in Christ (1 Cor 12:13).

God, Our Father, We Adore Thee

God, our Father, we adore Thee! We, Thy children, bless Thy name!
Chosen in the Christ before Thee, we are “holy without blame.”
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Abba’s praises we proclaim!
Son Eternal, we adore Thee! Lamb upon the throne on high!
Lamb of God, we bow before Thee, Thou hast brought Thy people nigh!
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Son of God, who came to die!
Holy Spirit, we adore Thee! Paraclete and heav’nly guest!
Sent from God and from the Savior, Thou hast led us into rest.
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! By Thy grace forever blest.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—Three in One! We give Thee praise!
For the riches we inherit, Heart and voice to Thee we raise!
We adore Thee! We adore Thee! Thee we bless, thro’ endless days!
